I just received and assembled this lamp, and I felt it deserved a review. Unless it stops working, it’s a fantastic deal at the discounted price I paid ($40), especially compared to other retailersâassuming it fits your requirements. Here are a few helpful points to consider.
The lamp comes with two ‘smart’ bulbs and AA batteries for the remote, which already makes it worth the price. Itâs packaged securely to prevent scratches and breakage, and all materials, aside from the styrofoam, are easily recyclable. To avoid frustration, grab a pair of scissors to cut through the tough plastic wraps on the tubes. Also, straighten out any twists in the cord before you begin assembly. All parts fit together smoothly, and if you follow the assembly diagram, you can set it up in under 10 minutes. I recommend assembling the entire lamp stem before attaching it to the base. If you havenât assembled one before, you’ll need to gently pull some extra cord out from the bottom as you screw together each section of the tube, which is trickier if it’s already attached to the base. One last tip: the two plastic nuts that secure the hoods to the lamps are not interchangeable. If you encounter difficulty threading one, try the otherâboth of mine fit perfectly after switching.
The base is heavy and sturdy, and the matte black finish has a nice, slightly textured powder coat with no visible flaws. The hoods are made of decent plastic, as expected at this price, and while they’re translucent, you can’t see through them unless the bulb is on. Overall, the components feel surprisingly well-made. One note: when the small side lamp is bent parallel to the floor, the bulb may show slightly beneath the edge of the hood, which may be a concern for some.
Regarding functionality, the remote has two sets of buttonsâone for each lamp. The dimming feature works only through the remote and only if youâre using ‘smart’ bulbs. Each lamp has manual switches that only turn them on and off, and you must switch them on manually before using the remote. Regular bulbs can be used, but they wonât connect to the remote, so no dimming function will be available. I’ve seen reviews about difficulty in obtaining replacement bulbs from the manufacturer, but it seems that any brand of ‘smart’ bulb may work, as the instruction pamphlet outlines the simple steps to sync a new bulb to the remote.
The included bulbs have a color temperature range of 3000K to 6000K. To simplify, 2700K-3000K gives the ‘warm’ light typical of incandescent bulbs, while higher Kelvins provide a ‘cooler’ light quality, like daylight. However, in these lamps, the light doesn’t get ‘warmer’ at the lowest dimmed setting; it just emits less light. The bulb color temperature and brightness are controlled separately via two sets of buttons on the remote, which is a nice feature. Brightness is adjusted using the sunburst icons, while color temperature is managed with the ‘CCT’ buttons (which I assume stands for Change Color Temperature). On the highest brightness and coolest setting, the bulbs emit a very bright, stark white lightâgreat for our intended use in the basement laundry room. You can long-press the CCT button to fine-tune the color temperature as needed and separately adjust the brightness. I liked the lamp so much that I took it to my office for extra light last night with the warmer settings.
Only time will tell how durable it is, and I can’t comment on customer service if any issues arise. This isn’t a PB or RH lamp, but for Day 1, it’s an excellent value for the price and meets our needs perfectly.
